Meteorologist

Welcome!

My name is Taylor Cox, I am a meteorologist in Oklahoma with experience of the diverse weather that crosses the plains including tornadoes, snow and ice storms, severe wind, drought, and floods.

About Me

Growing up in Oklahoma, weather safety has always been a passion. This is a picture of my siblings and myself filming a rotating shelf cloud in the distance. Soon after my mom snapped this photo, a tornado warning was issued and we headed inside.

This passion led to a Bachelors in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma with a Minor in Math and a Minor in Broadcasting. I continued my education at Georgetown University, achieving my Masters in Emergency and Disaster Management.

Experience

HailTrace Digital Meteorologist

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I am currently working at HailTrace as the Digital Meteorologist. HailTrace is a weather technology company that specializes in providing hail, wind, and tornado data to the restoration and emergency management community. Every day I do the live noon forecast and run the company’s social media. Some of my other responsibilities include cohosting the HailChatter podcast, and emceeing the annual Raising Hail Tour! One of my favorite things about HailTrace is that it is filled with meteorologists (in almost every department) so I am always learning and conversing with some of the brightest minds in the weather industry!

KOCO Meteorologist

Working in news in Oklahoma City has exposed me to all types of weather. This everchanging environment challenges my forecasting skills - showing me no storm is identical to another. My position at KOCO keeps me on my toes. Working in a fast paced environment pushes me beyond the forecast, to tell a compelling weather story, digestible for the viewer, even if watching for only a few minutes. One of my favorite aspects of this job is how no day is like another. Some days I report on STEM around the city, agriculture, community events, or even creating a weather explainer to help the viewer understand a complicated scientific process.

KSNW Meteorologist

I spent two years in Wichita, Kansas forecasting, anchoring, and storm chasing for a local TV station. In my free time, I worked towards my Masters in Emergency and Disaster Management at Georgetown, graduating in December 2021. Weather and Emergency Management go hand-in-hand to create a unique set of skills that is perfect to go beyond just a daily forecast, but also act as the station's scientist.

Education

Masters of Professional Studies

Georgetown University

2019 -2021

A Masters in Emergency and Disaster Management from Georgetown University prepared me to excel in the evolving field of Emergency Management. From examining, critiquing, then writing our own Hazard Mitigation Plan to dabbling in Cyber Security Incident Response Plans and Climate Change Adaptation Plans, this degree took a holistic and hands on approach.
